February is shaping up to be an action-packed month for the Black Rock Martial Arts family! Here’s what’s happening:

🥊 Carter Farman’s First Sparring Match – On February 8, Carter Farman steps into his first sparring matchup at a smoker-style tournament. We’re excited to see his hard work pay off in the ring!

🥋 Ava Submission Grappling Tournament – Also on February 8, a squad of our dedicated grapplers—Braydon Hemsworth, Kashes Redfern, Saul Hillis, Billy Buhler, and Levi Hendsbee—will be competing at the Ava Submission Grappling Tournament. We can’t wait to see them showcase their skills on the mats!

❤️ Couples Kickboxing Class – February 15 – Love is in the air and on the mats! Bring your significant other for a fun, free kickboxing class on February 15. It’s the perfect way to sweat, laugh, and train together!

🥊 AMA February Fury – February 22 – Matt Seyed, Anthony McPhail, and Cameron Kleven are ready to throw down at the AMA February Fury event in Richmond on February 22. These warriors have been grinding in training, and we can’t wait to see them put on a show!

This month is full of incredible opportunities to challenge yourself, support your teammates, and grow as martial artists. Let’s keep the energy high and the momentum rolling!

Happy New Year, Black Rock family! January has been an action-packed month, and we’re excited to share all the amazing things that happened as we kicked off 2025 with strength, courage, and community spirit.

🥶 First Annual Black Rock Polar Bear Swim
We started the year with a chilling challenge—our First Annual Black Rock Polar Bear Swim! Brave members took the plunge into icy waters, proving that martial arts isn’t just about physical strength but also mental toughness. This was an incredible way to build resilience, push limits, and bond as a team. Huge respect to everyone who participated!

🥋 Class Explore Week – Expanding Skills
In mid-January, we hosted our Class Explore Week, where members had the chance to step outside their comfort zones and try out different classes for free. From jiu jitsu to kickboxing, MMA to wrestling, it was fantastic to see so many of you embracing new challenges and sharpening your skills. We love seeing our students grow and discover new passions!

🥊 Ben Milley’s First MMA Fight in Moncton
One of the biggest highlights of the month was Ben Milley stepping into the cage for his first MMA fight in Moncton, New Brunswick, with Coach Marco in his corner. Ben showed incredible heart, discipline, and skill in his debut, and we couldn’t be prouder of his dedication to the sport. Whether in victory or learning experiences, the journey continues, and we’re excited to see what’s next for him!

January set the tone for an amazing year ahead, and we’re just getting started. Stay tuned for more upcoming events, training opportunities, and competitions in the months to come.

Join Dutch Drilling Teen Kickboxing classes at Black Rock Martial Arts, tailored for ages 12-17! Bring your shin pads and join our high-energy workouts combine kickboxing techniques with cardio exercises to enhance fitness, strength, and endurance. Suitable for all skill levels, these classes focus on building coordination, agility, and confidence in a fun and supportive environment. Led by experienced instructors, teens learn essential self-defense skills and enjoy a dynamic, engaging workout. It’s a great way to stay active, make friends, and feel empowered, while having fun and reaching fitness goals.

Hello Members and Parents,

We’re excited to announce some updates to our schedule and a few changes to our classes starting September 3, 2024! As we continue to grow and improve, we’ve added some new programs and made slight adjustments to ensure we offer the best possible experience for everyone.

You’ll notice new class times and programs for both kids and adults, including our expanded kickboxing and grappling options. We’ve also added a kids’ sparring program and a free invite-only grappling class, so make sure to check out the details! For our adult members, we’ve introduced an MMA wrestling class and a new BJJ session on Saturdays—great opportunities to refine your skills.

Additionally, we’ve included a few reminders on health, safety, and etiquette to keep things running smoothly for all. From parking guidelines to hygiene tips, these little updates will help ensure our gym remains a welcoming and efficient space for everyone.

Please take a moment to read through the new rules and regulations, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. We’re looking forward to another amazing season of training and growth with you all!

  • Schedule Change (Effective Sep. 3, 2024):
    • 7:15 AM Adult Kickboxing starts on Tuesdays and Thursdays (previously 7:30 AM).

  • New Kids Kickboxing Sparring Program:
    • Fridays, 5:00-5:45 PM on the mezzanine.
    • Kids must have all required gear: headgear, mouthguard, chest protector, shinguards, gloves, and a cup (for boys).
  • Kids Grappling Classes (Invite Only):
    • Mondays and Wednesdays, taught by Instructor Lance.
    • Free class but may occasionally be canceled.
    • Parents must follow Instagram or Facebook for class updates.
  • Dutch Drilling Classes:
    • Mondays: Teen Kickboxing.
    • Fridays: Adult Kickboxing.
    • Focus on controlled drills, ideal for those wanting to learn sparring.
    • Required gear: shinguards, gloves, mouthguard, and cup.
  • New Adult MMA Wrestling Class:
    • Saturdays, 9:00-10:00 AM.
  • Teen + Adult BJJ Class:
    • Saturdays, 10:00-11:00 AM.
  • Sunday Open Gym:
    • Year-round from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM for students 15+.
  • Sunday Free Adult Wrestling Class:
    • 9:00-10:00 AM, taught by Lance.
    • May be canceled occasionally; check Instagram/Facebook for updates.
  • Parking Reminder:
    • Do not park in front of any bay doors other than their own, especially late at night.
  • Health Guidelines:
    • If you or your child have any skin infection or illness, do not attend the gym.
  • Seating for Parents (Mezzanine Classes):
    • If 10 or more students are participating, avoid sitting on the floor space.
    • Use the upstairs or downstairs benches if needed.
  • Footwear in Bathrooms:
    • Wear footwear when entering the bathrooms (flip-flops are available).
  • Hygiene and Clothing:
    • Bring a change of shirt if doing two classes in a row (for all ages).
    • Keep nails clipped and maintain good hygiene.
    • Wear deodorant, especially for teens and up.
